Paul Benson opened his studio in 1998 with the intention of creating hand-crafted furniture and accessories with exceptional metal detailing and design. All of his work is meticulously created one at a time in his studio using antique machines and hand tools. A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, Paul's creative process involves constant experimentation in the studio, collaboration with interior designers, and designing intimately in response to his relationships with his clients.
Paul has created limited edition collections that have been sold exclusively through retail stores in San Francisco and New York. Paul collaborated with interior designer Paul Davis to create collections for Alabaster and Distant Origin. Paul created a coveted collection of one-of-a-kind vanity mirrors for Gump's in San Francisco, and later collaborated with Jay Jeffers to design aluminum and brass boxes and bar carts for Cavalier by Jay Jeffers in San Francisco.
Paul's current focus is custom pieces sold to the trade. His signed and numbered pieces are collected internationally and have been featured in homes designed by S.R.Gambrel, PDNY, Jay Jeffers, and Sara Story Design, to name a few. Jay Jeffers has included custom Benson furniture in rooms designed for the Elle Decor Show House in San Francisco in 2010, as well as the Met Home Modern By Design Show House in San Francisco in 2009. Paul has also had work featured numerous times in the SF Decorator Showcase in rooms designed by Brian Dittmar.
